Recital Information

D.J's Dance Studio is based upon the philosophy that dance is simply a lot of fun for people of all ages and abilities. We have found that dance improves memory, creativity, rhythm, coordination, team work, academic achievement and direction, as well as self-esteem. The studio has a comfortable, non-competitive, family oriented feel, and is able to limit class size allowing us to give individual attention to each dancer. Each class has specific objectives and pre-determined measurable goals in mind. The dancer is exposed to various techniques specific to the dance genre, musicality, and structure. The students at D.J.'s Dance Studio attain successful experiences with drill team, color guard, musical theater, and college dance
Dance attire recommended for all classes is a black or pink leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt of choice, black dance pants and appropriate dance shoes. The hair must be in a pony tail or bun.

Pre-School dancers are offered a 45 minute Pre-Tap and Pre-Ballet combination class encouraging creative movement and imagery. Emphasizing the development of large motor skills and musicality within the dance class structure, the classes are designed to encourage a love for dance movement.

Kindergarten - First Grade class is a one hour Pre-Tap and Pre-Ballet combination class working on large motor skills, imagery, creativity, musicality, and teamwork within the dance class format.

Level 1 is for the 2nd and 3rd grade dancer who may choose from Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop, allowing for a greater overview of dance styles. While maintaining the fun and excitement of dance, individual technique and movement skills begin to take on more importance at this level.

Level 2 is for the 4th and 5th grade dancer. Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop are available for this age group. As with Level 1, a closer attention to detail of movement and technique in relation to musicality and dance genre continues to be emphasized, as well as encouraging a deeper understanding for dance as an art form.

Level 3 classes are designed for the middle school age dancer. As with the younger ages groups, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop continue to be available. A higher level of skill and understanding of movement will be anticipated by the end of the year, as there is a stronger emphasis to technique, memory, musicality and performance skill preparation.

Level 4 is designed for the high school dancer who may choose from Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Modern Dance. With a strong commitment to dance, this age group has various performance opportunities. Depending upon their instructor and dance class of choice, improvisational skills are encouraged and choreographic opportunities are available. Home

Pointe class consideration is determined by the dancer's overall strength and ballet technique. If the dancer is accepted into Ballet Pointe class, the studio requires the dancer to take two soft shoe Ballet classes and one other dance class of choice in addition to the Pointe class.

Adult classes are designed for fun, exercise, and skill development of the specific dance genre. The studio offers Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop specifically for adults. Performance opportunities are available pending skill level and interest.

Hip-Hop is a genre of dance that incorporates a certain style of creativity, attitude, music, posture, and choreography. This style of dance stems from early urban influences of rap and the inner city streets where many different ethnic cultures and dance disciplines fused together to form the exciting form of dance known as hip-hop.

Recital costume fees are due before closing for winter holidays. They range between $40 to $65 per catalog costume for each dance class in which the student is enrolled. Recital fees for the theater rental are due in March and average $70 per dancer. Studio photos of the dancer in their recital costumes are scheduled in April. The recital is normally held in June.
